I have been a counsellor since 2011. My approach is person-centred and based on responding to each individual’s needs. I will not judge you but will accept you, respect you and be honest with you. I trust my clients to know what is hurting for them and I aim to facilitate a way of working through this together. I aim to build an honest and trusting relationship and to support clients to feel empowered to make the changes needed to heal themselves.
I am a fully qualified person-centred counsellor. I am a registered member of the British association for counselling and psychotherapy (MBACP). I hold professional indemnity insurance.
I have also completed many additional courses on Trauma and PTSD, Eating disorders, Group facilitation, Working with families, Drawing and talking, Animal assisted therapy, Near nature creative therapies, Sand tray therapy, Autplay therapy, Attachment and mindfulness coaching. I continue to keep adding to my knowledge with regular CPD.
I began practicing as a counsellor in 2011 in a Warrington GP practice, counselling clients who had been referred by their GP.
I later began counselling within an occupational health department. Providing counselling for NHS staff for two different NHS trusts. I continue to do this work ona part-time basis, providing support for a vast range of personal and work related issues.
I have also volunteered for a local organisation, providing counselling for children and young people who have been affected by a family members alcohol or substance misuse.
My private practice is also a very beneficial part of my work. In which I provide counselling for adults, children and young people, I have ensured I have achieved all the appropriate additional training and met the criteria to work with children and young people as well as adults. I also have a current DBS (formerly known as CRB) certificate. I have extensive experience of working with young people in both mainstream and specialist schools and their parents/carers.
In addition have a dedicated counselling room which is a quiet, comfortable, safe place for us to meet and work together. I have a range of materials and equipment which can be used to help children and young people to express themselves in a way which may be more suited to them. These can also be provided for adult clients too if you feel you may benefit from working in this way.
In addition I also have first hand experience in counselling and supporting young people and adults on the autistic spectrum and regularly carry out therapetic work for the National Autistic Society.
